Tally - ho to the Bay!

Day 1:

  Day one was greeted with sunshine and strong winds as we set out for the Chesapeake Bay. With a slight misguidance in directions, we were driven off our course by 20 miles. Fortunately, we corrected ourselves and made it to camp with good time.
   From first glance, the beach was amazing. Soft sand, warm sun, and gentle tides. With some team work, we quickly unpacked the cars, set up the tents, and even had time to play some ice breakers before getting down to the business of meal planning. From there we divided up into groups for meals, developed our list, and sent a couple of the team members on their way to the grocery store. The grocery store group worked efficiently to find the needed items at reasonable prices, and in a short amount of time. They were even greeted by many local who were intrigued by the stuffed grocery cart and matching college students.

   As the afternoon drifted on, the group took part in many leisurely games such as frisbee, catch, and even 500. Afterwards, group three began to prepare dinner for the night; chili. Whether or not it was surely for hunger, everyone in the ASB team chipped in to cook the assortment of vegetables, beans, and ground beef. Despite the seemingly adequate size of the chili, many were left feeling a ittle less than full. However, once dinner ended, a bonfire and smores making started due to the help of many. We joyfully gathered around the fire to escape from the wind and cold which had been beginning to effect our spirits. Marshmallows were roasted, smore made, and laughs had; all signs to a good ending to an eventful day. Our day topped, however, to the delightful sighting of the Super Moon! The Moon was the closest it had been in 18 years and we were fortunate enough to catch it in all its glory. It was nothing short of beautiful.

   In reflection, it was a wonderful way to start our week. Any minor set backs were out-shadowed by the relaxation, beautiful sights, and good company that was had on our first day. Cheers to an equally as exciting week.

Here we go!

In about twelve hours, we'll hit the road and head off to the Philip Merrill Center at the Chesapeake Bay Foundation (CBF) for a week of environmental conservation service-learning, and camping on the beautiful Chesapeake Bay!  While we've been eagerly getting ready for our trip, the CBF has been getting ready for us as well. Check out this great post over at the Bay Daily that talks about students from the University of Maryland and other colleges that will be working to save the Bay this Spring Break!

We'll check back in when we get to the CBF. And to all the other AB Terps heading out this week, travel safely, and have a great trip!

2 weeks left...!

So this is our blog. 

During our trip we will use this to share our daily activities and the ideas we discuss in our reflections. We will also be able to upload pictures and videos using a flip cam to better illustrate to our friends and family the experiences we shared while together. 

I hope everyone is getting excited to depart for our trip... 2 weeks from today we will be arriving at our destination :)
